SPA FAQ

I am in the market for a hot tub or is it a spa .. . what is the difference?
None. A spa and a Hot tub are the same thing. A hot tub was the old fashioned wooden redwood tub.

I don’t want to use chlorine or bromine in my spa. Are there alternatives?
Yes. We offer several alternate sanitizing systems: Baquaspa, Pristine blue, FROG mineral purifiers, and several other systems.

Who installs the plumbing for my new spa?
Your new spa has no external plumbing, simply fill using a garden hose and drain using the fitting at the bottom of the spa. The water only needs to be changed every 3-4 months.

Can I plug my spa into a regular 110v outlet?
Generally no. Your new spa will need a hard wired connection. Most spas require 50amps @ 240 volts. All wiring should be done by a qualified electrician, and meet the current N.E.C. codes.

I want to put my spa on my back deck, can you deliver it and put it where I want it?
Our normal delivery policy is to deliver the spa to a level area. We will send 2 to 3 men, depending on the size of the spa. They will be able to slide the spa onto the ground or waist high deck. The owner will be responsible to provide and designate adequate access to the site, including permission to cross any property other than the owners. Owner will be responsible for any damage to the yard or driveway caused by the weight of delivery vehicles. If the spa is to be placed in an area that does not meet the above critera, the owner must provide adequate help to move the spa to the desired location. If Gritz Pools & Spas is required to bring additional manpower or equipment to the site, there will be an additional charge.

Why should I buy a spa from you, when I always see tent sales, and hot tub blow out sales? Wouldn’t I get a better deal from them?
Probably not. Have you ever noticed that these tent sales and big promotions are advertised everywhere and they have them all the time? These promotions cost a lot of money. Someone has to pay for it, and that is you the consumer. When we have a sale or a promotion, it is truly an event and it is for a reason, such as selling our scratch and dent models or making room for the new models. You won’t see monthly tent sales from us. We keep are price down by not spending tons on promotions or on renting out parking lots and warehouses. You can count on getting the best deal from us, at any time of year and you won’t be pressured by a team of commissioned pushy spa salespeople.

How many jets should a spa have?
Obviously the more jets a spa has the more therapeutic action your spa will have. Some people enjoy the vigorous action of water swirling from all directions. Some people prefer a quite, gentle soak, with no jets or bubbling. We have spas with very few jets; we also have spas that can be equipped with over 70 jets. Just remember the more jets, the higher the price. You must also make sure your spa is equipped with enough horsepower to run the jets effectively.

What can I expect when my spa is delivered? Can you put it on the roof of my garage?
We can put a spa almost anywhere, but you may have to pay additional if the spa is to be installed in a difficult place. Please see our spa delivery exclusion sheet by clicking here.

I have a house down the Jersey shore. Can you deliver a spa there?
We would be glad to deliver there, but there would be an additional delivery charge, and there would be a mileage charge for any warranty service.

Can I use my spa in the winter?
Of course. Many people love being in an outdoor spa when it is cold and snowy. All spas are self contained and equipped with heaters. They are designed to be used year round.

I don’t use my spa in the winter. Can I drain it?
No. A spa should never be drained and left out in the winter, unless it is winterized. Winterizing a spa can be quite difficult. Spas are full of complex plumbing lines, and pumps. It is very difficult to get all the water out of a spa, and keep it out all winter. We really suggest setting the temperature as low as your spa will go and leave it run. It will use very little power, and it will assure you of not getting any freeze damage.

A friend of mine gave me his old spa. It looks like it needs a little work. Can you get it running for me?
Most used spas that are given away are not worth fixing. We have seen people spend a fortune trying to get an old spa that has been neglected fixed. I would suggest that unless you see the spa running, and it is working perfectly, don’t accept a used spa. Come in and see us and we’ll find a spa to fit your budget.

I really like my spa water hot. How hot can I set it, and is there a danger of it getting too hot?
All spas are required by U.L. to have a maximum temperature of 104 degrees. All spas have redundant safety limits that will prevent the spa from going over that temperature, however due to the temperature of the motors and equipment it is possible to exceed that temperature. This is called thermal creep. If this happens it is best not to use the tub, until it cools to a safe temperature. I know a spa will have to be covered, but I’ve heard the covers can be bulky and difficult to get off. Spa covers can be cumbersome to handle, especially when they get older and absorb some moisture. A cover lift device is the best way to handle that. We have several models to offer.
